Resume Aid

In this increasingly difficult job market, your resume is the key to making you stand how among the sea of job applicants.  You need to think of your resume as salesmanship in print.  The purpose of your resume is to secure the job interview.  The purpose of this site is to aid you in your resume efforts. In effect, resume aid. So let's begin...

You need to look at your resume as one step in the game plan to getting the job.  Is it strong enough to get you to the interview?  Will it get you to the next step in the process of getting the job?

The problem we see so often is that the job applicant prepares one resume and submits it to every single prospective employer.  This is the wrong approach.

Each resume should be targeted to the job in question.  You need to revise the resume to appeal to the specific employer it is being submitted to.

The basics of your resume will contain your experience and background.  Each resume will have a core section that will be revised according to the specific employer's needs.

At a minimum, your resume should contain the following:

1.  Your contact information.

2.  Your headline summarizing the key point of what you have to offer.

3.  The skills summary section where you list the skills applicable to the job in question.

4.  Your professional experience.  This should be clinical in explanation.  Use action verbs and avoid using "I" in describing your experience.

5.  Your education.  Be sure to point out any honors or high grade point averages.

Stay away from the various resume templates out there.  This will merely make you look like everyone else that is using the very same template.  Think about it...  if you find a resume template that ranks high in the search engines don't you think that a lot of your competing applicants will be using that very same template?

In listing your professional experience be sure to start in reverse chronological order.  Your resume should list your most recent job first.

If there is any one thing I can give you that will aid you in your resume preparation it is this: prepare to resume specifically for the job in question.

The hiring manager who will be reading your resume will be looking at hundreds of resumes.  Make your resume stand out.

Have your resume proof read.  Typographical errors are deadly.

Accompany your resume with a cover letter.  The cover letter should specifically address why you are qualified for the job and request an interview to demonstrate your qualifications.

Your resume is your sales letter -- it is selling you to the employer.  Make sure that your resume is the best salesman you can prepare. Explore this site to find other resume aids in your search for the ideal job.
